Mermaid School Coat

A blonde mermaid and her grey kitten riding the waves fill half the front of the Sirenita school smock, made from multicoloured gingham, for boys and girls aged 4 to 10. It’s the smock they put on without complaining: the illustration features bubbles, a pink jellyfish and a starfish, while the other half has a small check pattern in red, blue, yellow and orange on white.

The yellow neckline binding, buttons and square pocket in the same yellow pick out the colour of the mermaid’s hair. The elasticated cuffs stay at the wrists, keeping sleeves out of plates and paint.

It fastens at the front with buttons within reach of three-year-old hands that are ready to do it themselves.

If there’s more than one mermaid in the class, embroider her name on the chest: it’s machine-sewn in our workshop in Barcelona, just like the smock itself.
